Gig: The Life and Times of a Rock-star Fantasist

by Simon Armitage.

A writer and poet's obsession with music.

Gig

Simon Armitage is a northerner prone to coming out with statements such as:

I can't empathize with anyone who doesn't admire or appreciate The Fall. If you don't like them, you're wrong.

and:

Hebden Bridge has also been described as the thinking person's Todmorden.

You'll get no arguments from me.

This is a very entertaining and funny book from a man who has excellent taste in music. The final chapters describe how he and his mates finally got round to setting up their own band, which they named The Scaremongers, having ignored Armitage's dad's suggestion of Mid-Life Crisis.

Great stuff.
