by Angus Buchanan.
A balanced biography of the legendary early Victorian engineer.
I liked the way this biography tried to balance Isambard Kingdom Brunel's achievements with his undoubted cock-ups, but I came out of it feeling that his achievements had been undersold.
I guess I was hoping for more enthusiastic advocacy from the author. I wanted wows, but I didn't get many. Perhaps I was being unfair to Buchanan, who might more fairly be said to maintain a professional detachment from his subject throughout the book.
