The Plot: a Biography of an English Acre

by Madeleine Bunting.

A daughter's investigations into her eccentric father.

The Plot

Madeleine Bunting's father was a sculptor who leased a plot of land in North Yorkshire, on which he built a chapel. The Plot describes Bunting's attempts to understand what made her dad tick.

He was clearly a strange and often selfish man, and Bunting does not shirk from saying so. The picture she paints is hardly complimentary. But, in the end, she seems to come to terms with her father's eccentricities by investigating the history of the plot of land and the surrounding area.

It's an unusual, but very readable book.
