Granta 96: War Zones

by Ian Jack (ed.).

A collection of writing (loosely) themed around war zones.

Granta 96: War Zones

Yet another great collection from Granta.

I think they were stretching the metaphor of war zones a bit far this time (is swearing a deposition for an American court really a war zone?), but there you have it. A bit too much fiction for my liking too—but don't let that put you off; it's just my personal bias.

The most haunting passage in the latest collection is where Wendell Steavenson describes Lenanese Hezbollah fighters going through the personal effects of an Israeli army bulldozer driver they had killed: "In a way he was just like us," they conclude.
