A Field Guide to Getting Lost

by Rebecca Solnit

How ‘getting lost’ is a great way to find yourself.

A Field Guide to Getting Lost

I liked this book a lot. I read it soon after reading Solnit's memoir, The Faraway Nearby, and it's every bit as difficult to describe. The book comprises nine essays on all manner of subject matter, loosely themed on the concept of ‘getting lost’. In most, but not all cases, the concept is metaphorical: finding yourself in unfamiliar territory, outside your comfort zone, is a good way to learn. And isn't learning one of the most important experiences in life?

These few words don't do Solnit's enjoyable book justice. You should read it yourself.
