by Robert Macfarlane.
Author seeks the remaining wild places of Britain and Ireland.
This is a fantastic book, and even more enjoyable than the same author's universally praised debut, Mountains of the Mind.
Macfarlane is a flowing, confident writer with a talent for the unusual phrase. He was born, we learn, in 1976—damn his eyes!
Why not follow my example and buy two copies of this book: one for yourself, and one for a friend?
(I appreciate I haven't told you anything about the book, but I didn't want to spoil it for you. You can thank me later.)
Update Jan-2012: The above was written in 2007. I have just re-read The Wild Places, and enjoyed it every bit as much as the first time.
