by Stephen Moss.
The Natural History of an English village.
In Wild Hares and Hummingbirds, Stephen Moss records, on a month-by-month basis throughout a single year, his encounters with nature on or near his local patch on the Somerset Levels. I enjoyed it very much. Harry Brockway's excellent scraperboard illustrations, which appear at the start of each new month, give the book a slightly old-fashioned feel—but I'm all in favour of that.
A nice, gentle read.
