Recently bereaved, long-overlooked Bucky Bronco travels from Chicago, Illinois to Scarborough, North Yorkshire to perform his small handful of classic soul hits at a music festival. He is looked after by one of his biggest fans, local lass Dinah, a supermarket worker with a hopeless, unappreciative husband, and an equally hopeless and unappreciative son.
This is a gentle, affectionate novel about loss and hope, which I read through in two evening sittings.
