Reuters: Pope speaks out against "designer babies"

Pope Benedict on Saturday condemned genetic engineering and other scientific practices that allow people to select so-called "designer babies" by screening them for defects.

In a speech to the Pontifical Academy for Life, a Church body of experts, the Pope also attacked artificial insemination and the widespread use of medical tests that can detect diseases and inherited disorders in embryos.

The artificial insemination of virgins without their consent is still acceptable, though.

  1. The Pontifical Academy for Life doesn't sound like a bunch of people you would want to party with to me. But hey each to their own

  2. Why was it "artificial insemination of a virgin" ? I thought God did the business....then asked her "How was it for you?" "Divine!" she replied. That must have been one hell of a wet patch.

  3. The Bible doesn't explain how Our Lord inseminated Mary, but however He did, it can't have been through the usual means because she was still virgo intacta. So He must have done it in some crafty way, using artifice. Hence my use of the word artificial.

Gods have form for shagging ladies through deception. Remember Zeus giving Europa one while disguised as a bull? Gods are nutters.

  4. A divine BJ maybe? Thatold chestnut'no, of course you won't get pregnant if you swallow'
