Just when you thought the intolerance couldn't get any more extreme:
Observer: Now drivers face ban on smoking at the wheel
Britain's senior road safety campaigners are calling for a ban on smoking while driving, in an attempt to cut the number of crashes.
The Department of Health said last night that it would seriously consider a ban, which is also being looked at in Germany, Australia and America. The move was backed by anti-smoking campaigners but drew criticism from others as an attack on personal freedom.
Presumably, they will also be calling for a ban on other driver distractions, such as car radios, roadside advertisement hoardings and passengers.
No, somehow I don't think so either.
Hmmm… Hundreds of thousands of motorists deprived of the calming effect of nicotine. Expect a lot more road-rage.
The shift has started. The persecution is now being directed toward motorists (who smoke). Now we know who is next when nicotine is re-classified as a class A drug. Ha! You think petrol and road tax are expensive now.
Nothing new here. Had you ever ventured to France, you would have found that the same law has been in place since the early nineties. I wonder what the road accident figures there are compared to dear old Blighty?
Well, now you come to mention it.........
Figures for 2002 show that the UK and France enjoyed a population of approx 59 million each. The French drove 35.4 million vehicles, while the Brits raced 30.4 million.
In France there were 7368 fatalities by traffic participation, in the UK there were 3411.

Well you did ask (I need to get out more).
But somewhere in your calculations, you have to allow for the fact that the French are brainless twats who piss in the street!
I am currently in a bit of a dilemma. I am going to France on holiday a week tomorrow. For the duration of the trip I have hired a car. The stats that I found don't give me much confidence, especially as a (why won't the bloody Euro key work on my keyboard) 900 excess appears to be the norm for a French hire car. I wonder what the fine is for chinning a frog that bump parks my hire car?
By the way
I alwaysBrits piss in the street quite frequently after a good session.
