  1. I have a friend in Dublin, Ireland who owns a tattoo parlour in the heart of Temple Bar in the city. He was in Liverpool on Tuesday night for the Atletico Madrid match, and during our night out, I asked him how business was, given the current financial status. "Better than ever", he said.

Isn't it funny how whenever there's a downturn in the economy, betting shops, pubs and the likes of tattoo parlours do well. You would think that a drop in disposable income might prompt individuals to tighten their belt, but it's escapism that flourishes.

  2. After we split up, my first wife moved in with a tattooist. One afternoon, while she was visiting the kids, she said 'I've had a tattoo done'. Expecting a small discrete rose or something similar, she opened her blouse & revealed a peacock, with its head round her neck & its tail disappearing disappearing a lot lower down.

One day, I plan to have a tattoo of Frank Zappa on my shoulder. So far I keep finding better things to spend the money on. (New Drumbo album due about now, feat. Bill Harkleroad & Mark Boston).
