Meetings at the Frontiers of Pakistan.
I only read this book because it happens to be by one of my favourite authors, Kathleen Jamie. I'm very glad I did. It tells of her visit to the frontiers of Pakistan, and of her return visit ten years later. She meets and stays with ordinary people, gets to know them, and gets to appreciate (while not always empathising with) their culture. Her return trip shows how the place has changed since the West launched its war on Afghanistan, and the area has become better connected with the outside world after the building of new roads.
An engaging and prejudice-challenging book.
