BBC: Driver Derek stays loyal to Skoda

Motorist Derek Wright has a wry chuckle whenever he hears people making jokes about Skodas - he has owned 19 of the cars over the past 40 years.

Mr Wright, 76, from Woodhead, Derbyshire, said he went for a vehicle that was reliable and cheap to run.

Yes, indeed, they're so reliable that Derek only needs to replace them once every two years.

  1. You really are not going to believe this, but I drive a 1996 Skoda Felicia Estate (or fellatio, as I like to refer to it). They were shite before 1995 & deserve the reputation! I've put 80000 miles on the clock since I bought it in 1999. I've heard all the jokes (actually I wrote most of them) about skips etc. but remember (from an earlier comment) I used to drive a Reliant Robin!
I drove Fiats for 15 years before the Skoda. Nobody makes jokes about my car, I am 6ft 2ins & weigh 18 stone. For some reason, that makes driving a Skoda alright with everybody around here! Carrying a wheel brace in the driver's door helps too!
Interesting point...60% of Bournemouth taxis are Skodas.

  2. I don't know why I bother writing all this crap, but I suppose it's better than playing FreeCell all night.
And after all, if I didn't, who would?
