The theme for Granta 119 is Britain (as opposed to Great Britain). So, of course, the cover shows a cracked and broken teacup. How very symbollick.
The book-cum-magazine contains the usual mix of prose, poetry, and photography. As ever, it does not contain nearly enough non-fiction, but what non-fiction there is is very good. Pride of place must go to an extract from the forthcoming book by the excellent Robert Macfarlane. Gary Younge's piece on Sevenage is also surprisingly interesting.
In terms of fiction, Mario Vargas Llosa's chapter based on the imprisonment of Roger Casement was particularly noteworthy.
On the whole, a pretty standard mix for Granta.
