I was at school in Stretford when the new "precinct" was opened and we had to write an essay saying why this was a good thing. I think the main point I put forward was that it was somewhere for old people to sit when it was raining. Looking back now, I'm convinced this awful eyesore has had a very deleterious effect on Stretford's development.
