With friends like that

Thank goodness for permanent news archives from reputable news organisations. Otherwise, history might well have forgotten the following:

BBC (30-May-2007): Pope meets parents of Madeleine

The parents of Madeleine McCann have met Pope Benedict in Rome and had a photograph of the abducted four-year-old blessed by him.

Apparently, the Vatican has removed all references to the McCann's audience with the pope from its website. I can't imagine why.

With friends like that, who needs enemas?

Richard Carter

A fat, bearded chap with a Charles Darwin fixation.

  1. I think it's very unreasonable for the pope to have to fear the press in this way. He should be able to stand by his initial supportive position, and if it turns out he was taken in, then just say so. The press are no better - they were all on the parent's side at first, now they are undecided, and if it turns out the parents were somehow involved, they will be tearing them apart. What do they expect the Pope to be? Infallible? Ah.

  2. Trying to dissociate himself from his former support seems to be a particularly cowardly and unchristian act to me. He was quite happy for the publicity when everyone was behind them. Two-faced is what he is.

    Not a nice man.
